Did you register for the Diversity Visa Lottery in fiscal year 2025? If so, then you won’t want to miss this important video where attorney Jacob Sapochnick shares how you can check the status of your entry online to know whether you have been chosen to apply for a Diversity Visa (DV). Checking the status of your entry is an important step in the application process because the State Department does not notify lottery winners directly.
Learn more about how to check your status in this video.
Overview
Earlier this month, the State Department selected the winners of the fiscal year 2025 Diversity Visa lottery. Registrants can now check whether they have been chosen by navigating to the 2025 Entrant Status Check webpage.
To check your status, you will need to have your confirmation number, enter your last/family name, and year of birth.
Once you have confirmed that you have been selected in the DV lottery, the State Department webpage will include detailed information on how and when you must apply for permanent residence in the United States.
Selected entrants of the DV lottery for fiscal year 2025 can submit their green card applications anytime during the fiscal year, which begins on October 1, 2024, and ends on September 30, 2025.
If I was selected, where do I apply?
Foreign nationals residing overseas can apply for an immigrant visa at their nearest U.S. Consulate or Embassy. Those residing inside the USA on valid visas can apply for adjustment of status (permanent residence) with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
WARNING – Selected entrants must apply during the pertinent fiscal year in which they were selected
Important note: To be eligible to apply for permanent residence, you must apply during the fiscal year in which you were selected. For those selected in fiscal year 2025, that means you must apply anytime from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025 (the end of the fiscal year).
An entrant who was chosen during FY 2025, who fails to apply for permanent residence by September 30, 2025, will abandon his or her selection and lose their chance of applying for permanent residence. Entrants cannot apply during subsequent fiscal years.
Beware of Fraud
The only way to learn whether you have been selected in the DV lottery for fiscal year 2025 is by visiting the official State Department website and navigating to the Entrant Status Check.
You will not be contacted by the State Department to notify you of your selection. Emails, letters, or other communications claiming to notify you of your selection are fraudulent. Beware of illegitimate or deceptive web pages posing as official government sites. To learn how to protect yourself against fraud, please click here.
How many immigrant visas will be issued in FY 2025?
For those who were chosen in the DV lottery during fiscal year 2025, the State Department will issue up to 55,000 immigrant visas.
